Last week, about 40 Guardsmen from the 165th Airlift Wing based in Savannah were deployed to the Persian Gulf area, their first Presidential order to deploy since the Korean War. Today the equipment they will need was loaded up and shipped off. Lights, generators, airplane parts and other ground support equipment was loaded onto C-17 aircraft from Charleston.
"We think after tomorrow, our initial surge, if you will, of people and cargo will be satisfied," Col. Ed Wexler told us.
Another large group of Guardsmen from the 165th Airlift Wing will leave for Persian Gulf area tomorrow morning.
