The Chatham County Police Department is lending a helping hand to the troops overseas. With some assistance from Southern Smiles, officers went around town asking local businesses for supplies like toiletries, towels, books, basically anything the troops could use. And of course, local businesses came through. One of the officers heading up the cause is a captain for the county police department. He says, as a veteran, he knows first hand what the troops need.
"This is something I wish that we had when I was overseas," Capt. James Hieronymous said. "It was really needed at the time."
They'll send the items to our troops in the Persian Gulf in the next few days.
