When you find something you love to do, you stick with it. For 23 years, one teacher has used her love of teaching to help students at Bible Baptist School in Savannah. Elaine Owens' second graders can't even begin to count the many things she has taught them throughout the year.

"They're curious about everything, just like little sponges, soaking up everything," she said.

Student Nzinga Washington told us, "She's really nice. If we need help with something, she always tries to help us with something we don't understand."

"For some of them, they've struggled, and then the light comes on and my heart swells up because they're learning what I've taught them," said Owens.

Owens has been teaching for over 20 years, but she still gets excited about showing up for the first day of school.  She says she feels blessed to have found her calling.

"I believe God has called on me to do this, and gave me the gift of teaching. I just love this. I love this age," she said.

For sharing her love of learning and passing it on to future generations, Elaine Owens is this week's WTOC Top Teacher.
