You know how important military bases are to the Low Country and Coastal Empire. So how do you convince representatives in Washington they're getting their money's worth? South Carolina Congressman Jim Memint takes them to see the bases. Yesterday, he brought Senate Armed Services Readiness Committee chairman Senator John Ensign to tour Parris Island. Ensign can then spread the word to the Base Realignment and Closure Commission.
"When you have bases like this, I think it's going to be obvious to the BRAC commission, when you deal with the whole eastern part of the US for training our Marines, this is a critical base for the future of our US military," Ensign said.
Parris Island, Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort and the Beaufort Naval Hospital mean a minimum of $95 million for the Low Country economy every year.
