The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department has a new police chief. City and County officials named Willie Lovett the sole finalist for the job today and will be officially appointed as chief in two weeks. Michelle Paynter was there for the big announcement this morning and spoke with Lovett about the future of the department and his new job.

House fires seem to be on the rise so far this year and many of them were older homes built with wood known as "fat lighter" which is resinous wood like Pine that won't rot but is highly flammable. Bureau chief Dal Cannady has been following this story and found out why so many homes were built with this kind of wood and what you can still do to help protect your older home.

The new Miley Cyrus movie The Last Song opens today and that means folks from around the Coastal Empire will be packing area theaters. Don Logana is on Tybee Island where a special premier party kicks off tonight and talked with movie goers about Tybee's Hollywood debut.
