HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - Visitors from all over are on Hilton Head Island this week for the Verizon Heritage golf tournament.

A lot of people even have guest over and host parties. But Sea Pines resident Les Parker takes it a step further.

For nearly 12 years, Parker has been serving up free hot dogs with all the fixings from his desk on the 11th green.

He says he started the tradition because his wife was the captain of the couriers and was gone most of the tournament.

So he decided to do his part. And over the years, the word on his open deck policy has spread to everyone.

"The secret is my word of mouth advertising and the fact that everything is free, everyone knows they are welcome at my deck to have lunch with Les," said Parker.

For many like Bill Miller, coming to Parker's deck is a tradition you just can't beat.

"The best," said Miller while taking a bite.

Parker serves up a lot of hot dogs. Sometimes as many as 200 over the course of the four day tournament.

And even though Parker's wife passed away, he still continues this tradition and says he looks forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.
