Hijacking ringleader found in Baghdad

(Washington-AP) -- US officials say Abul Abbas, the leader of Palestinian group that hijacked the cruise liner "Achille Lauro" in 1985, has been captured in Baghdad.

Officials say Abbas was taken in a raid last night by American special operations forces during a raid on the outskirts of the Iraqi capital.

Defense officials say a number of his associates were also detained during raids in several sites around Baghdad. Commandos also seized documents and weapons.

The Achille Lauro was seized by four Palestinian militants as it sailed from Egypt to Israel in October 1985. American Leon Klinghoffer was killed during the hijacking, which ended with the militants surrendering to Egyptian authorities.
