Wife says husband found safe after oil rig explosion

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM/WAFB) - A massive oil rig explosion off the coast of Louisiana left seven workers critically injured and at least 11 others missing Wednesday.

The US Coast Guard said Wednesday afternoon that reports from Plaquemines Parish officials that the missing workers had been found could be inaccurate.

The Coast Guard said as of 12pm Wednesday, their search for the missing workers was still underway.

The wife of a Lamar County man who has been listed as missing says she has been contacted by company officials who say her husband is safe and will return to shore soon.

Miles Richard Ezell, 54, was listed among the missing. But his wife Dora Ezell says her husband is now safe.

Officials said earlier that most of the 126 workers on the rig Deepwater Horizon escaped safely after the explosion off the Louisiana coast, but at lease 11 were still missing and two were still hospitalized.
