There is another sign that DaimlerChrysler is on the way to Chatham County. The new Savannah Technical College campus on Savannah's west side is opening up offices to house the school's Quick Start program and provide office space for about 40 DaimlerChrysler employees for the next two years. Tech's Quick Start program will train students to work at the $1 billion Sprinter van manufacturing plant. Mayor Floyd Adams says the start-up of the offices is another step in the process.
"Progress is being made," he said. "Basically, as far as I'm concerned, is the commitment that they will actually come here, although they still can change plans because of the economic situation."
DaimlerChrysler will hold a board meeting on July 8 to decide if they'll make the commitment to come to Chatham County official.
