It could be a new beginning for one of the area's biggest shopping centers, and some of area residents. They're building the new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World at Savannah Mall, and though the store hasn't even opened, just getting the store ready is helping to employ dozens. Before this store opens, they'll need to hire hundreds more.
Steve Hodges has already discovered Savannah's newest employer, and so have others. The economy may be slow, but there are no signs of stoppage as dozens of people work to get this new mega shop ready.
"What kind of separates us from everybody else is we are a destination location store," said Hodges. "We provide everything for everybody. The kids come in and kind of see something different."
That brand new shopping experience will bring more than 200 hundred jobs, and they need people to fill those jobs right now. They've opened an employment center at the store's upper-level entrance, where you can fill out an application and have an on-site interview. But the Bass Pro Shops plan to hook shoppers with a unique look and feel.
"People just get lost for hours and hours," said Hodges. "Right out front, to kind of set us apart and make us different, we've got a waterfall feature that going to be built up on the fair side, and it's going to trickle down the walkway, it's going to come into a nice pond."
A 13,000-gallon fish tank and indoor waterfall will be indoors when this store comes together. It will be unlike any store the Coastal Empire has ever seen.
Savannah Mall officials believe they've grabbed another large anchor store that will help draw even more of shoppers soon, and maybe even more importantly, add jobs to our local economy. They are hiring right now, and the store is set to open this July.
