Carjacking suspect caught minutes after crime

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Neighborhood Task Force helped catch a carjacking suspect.

Around 6:30pm, on Thursday police were notified about a carjacking. A silver Volve 960 has been taken by a suspect armed with a black pistol.

Minutes later, memebers of the Neighborhood Task Force spotted the vehicle near 34th Street and Waters Avenue.

NTF continued to follow the vehicle to the 1700 block of East 33rd Street when the suspect got out of the car and fled on foot. NTF followed and was quickly apprehended the suspect without further incident. The vehicle was not damaged.

The weapon used waas recovered.

The suspect was identified as 17-year-old Kirk Patterson. He was charged with armed robbery, hijaking a motor vehicle and possessio nof marijuana with intent to distribute, obstruction by fleeing and various other traffic charges.
