Chatham County police are still searching for a killer today. Early Sunday morning, two joggers found 39-year-old Rosemary Simmons Black at Lake Mayer. She had been stabbed to death. At this point, they are not giving us any new information. But they do tell us Lake Mayer isn't exactly the kind of place where things like this happen. Police may not yet know where, or when, she was murdered, but they do say they're on the right track.
"Investigators have continued to receive a constant flow of information that has been helpful to the case," said Sgt. Mike Wilson of Chatham County PD.
People who visit the park say Black's murder is shocking, but they won't let it stop them from coming here.
"I really do feel like it's safe, I've never really felt threatened here," jogger Vandy Warren said.
"It's just really surprising," said park visitor Martin Hendricks. "I wouldn't expect it to happen out here."
Police still are not sure if she was killed at the park or some place else and then dumped here. They do tell us that she was not dressed like a jogger and was last seen on Savannah's Southside around midnight Saturday.
"We of course encourage people to call in with any additional information, who may have seen her between Saturday morning and after midnight Sunday morning," said Wilson.
