After serving three months in Operation Iraqi Freedom, aviators with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251 are back home in Beaufort, South Carolina. WTOC was there for the homecoming as the Thunderbolts came home from their second combat deployment since the terrorist attacks on September 11. Friends and family rushed to the flight line to welcome home pilots.
"Homecoming is great, it's very motivating to fly in and see all the support in Beaufort from our family and friends," said Maj. Brian Harrelson.
"You don't realize what you take for granted," said Maj. Brant Bond. "Grass, the smells, the people, the friends, and obviously the family, it's great to be back."
Now after serving in two combat deployments in less than two years, including Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, these families are just glad to have their heroes home safe and sound.
The rest of the Thunderbolts are expected to return tomorrow afternoon.
