Savannah woman charged with murder of child

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A Savannah woman has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 14-month-old baby girl, Brooke Singleton.

Stacy Jean Singleton, 38, was arrested Sunday night. Savannah-Chatham Mero Police confirm she is the step-grandmother of the child. The baby girl died last weekend.

This is the official statement from SCMPD as of 2:00 p.m. on Monday:

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police (SCMPD) Violent Crimes Detectives made an arrest in the murder of a 14 month old Brooke Singleton.

June 26th Just after 2:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to Memorial University Health Center (MUHC) after a child was brought in with life threatening injuries. Violent Crimes Detectives immediately launched a thorough investigation.

The child later died from her injuries. An autopsy determined the child's death was a homicide. Last night 38 year-old Stacy Singleton was arrested and charged with murder.  Singleton is the child's step-grandmother and was her caretaker at the time of her death.  She was transported to CCDC and is expected to be arraigned this week."
