SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah-Chatham Metro Police are investigating the shooting death of a 20 year-old man. It happened sometime Wednesday night.
The body of 20-year-old Zachias Earle was found in the street at Deerfield Avenue and Golf Club Drive in Windsor Forest around 10:30 p.m.
It's definitely woken up a sleepy neighborhood. While police aren't releasing many details, they have released the victim's name and cause of death.
The blood stains remain, but the crime tape is gone in Windsor Forest. The shooting has the normally quiet and laid back community asking a lot of questions and many wondering how this could happen.
While some neighbors are ready to leave, 24-year-old Jamie Holmes, a school teacher nearby, who lives just across the street from where Earle's body was found, says he came home just after 10:00 p.m. but did not see a body in the street, until police came to his door. However, he did hear gun shots about an hour earlier.
"I heard the gun shots over there around 9:00 p.m. and we didn't see the body until 10:25 p.m.. It kind of sounds like someone got shot somewhere else and the body got dumped over here. It's a little weird to see a body on the ground in your neighborhood. It's very startling," Holmes told WTOC.
"This close. My daughter walks to work everyday, so I am seriously looking at moving," Howard Gray, who also lives down the street, told WTOC.
The Violent Crimes Unit is still investigating the shooting, but they have not released any other details.
There is no information on whether or not they have identified any any suspects.
