SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - With more hot summer days on the way, it's hard to imagine not having someone cool down.

That's why the members of the 2010 Chatham County Management Development and Leadership Class decided to raise money to buy some electric fans for seniors who don't have a way to keep cool.

Their team name is "SOS", Save Our Seniors.

Last month the team started holding fundraisers to buy the fans, their goal was to buy 100 fans, but they raised enough money to buy 300.

On Thursday, SOS presented the fans to Senior Citizens, Inc. and the Equal Opportunity Authority so they can distribute them to seniors.

"Helping Elders Live Pleasantly (HELP). It's not only our project name, it's our mission; it's the reason we are here today," said Michael Edwards from the Public Defenders Office. "Since 1979, an estimated 8,000 Americans mostly elders and young childern have died from heat related illnesses and in some of the world's very healthiest states,"
