Carjacking Suspect Sought

Brooklet police are searching for a suspect after a man was carjacked and left on the side of the road. It happened around 5:30pm yesterday, outside the Lowe's store on Highway 80 in Statesboro. The victim tells police he stopped to help what he thought was a stranded car. Two men got out and forced him out of his car with a gun, then left with the two vehicles. Later, a Brooklet police officer was able to stop them and capture one man, but the other escaped.

Officers say they considered the suspect to be armed and dangerous. Yesterday, they spent hours searching the roads around Brooklet in southern Bulloch County. K-9 teams from the Georgia State Prison at Reidsville, along with a helicopter, helped in the search through woods around the roads. Investigators say a big help would be knowing who they're chasing.

"Don't have a name yet," said Sheriff Lynn Anderson of Bulloch County. "We have one fellow in custody and he's telling us he doesn't know who the other gentleman is. We'll probably find that out later tonight or in the morning. Right now we don't know who he is."

Anderson advises people in that area to keep their doors and cars locked and not to pick up any hitchhikers. If you see anything suspicious, you're asked to call your local authorities.
