Tybee's 'Hurricane Gilligan' training exercise under way

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The city of Tybee Island is conducting an emergency readiness exercise this week with the Chatham Emergency Management Authority.

The drill started Monday, but city departments will be running simulated emergency conditions from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The cashier's office is expected to close from approximately 12 to 1 p.m. and other services should remain available, although with reduced staffing, according to a news release.

The effort, called Hurricane Gilligan, will be under the guidance of the Tybee Emergency Management office, with CEMA and planning has been under way for several months.

NOAA weather watches and warnings are not part of the simulation, so take any warnings of inclement weather as real, the release said.
