City crews clean up sewage spill

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - City crews cleaned up a sewage spill Monday night at 1602 Mitchell St. in Savannah, Ga.

The city's water and sewer crews were alerted about the spill at about 9:47 p.m. and the spill was cleared at 10:15 p.m., according to a city news release.

An estimated 280 gallons of sewage went into the city stormwater system, which drains into the Springfield Canal when a lightning strike caused Lift Station 53 to malfunction, the release said. It is classified as a minor spill under Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
