SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Interim state schools superintendent Brad Bryant will not run for election this fall.
The Dekalb County attorney was appointed by Gov. Sonny Perdue in June to fill out the six months left in the term of Kathy Cox. He had planned to run for the permanent job in November.
Bryant's campaign only collected 36,000 signatures, which is less than the 44,000 signatures needed to qualify by Tuesday's noon deadline.
Representatives said the clock simply ran out on the effort, which was done mostly by volunteers and a few paid staffers.
