SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The heat advisory includes these Georgia counties: Evans, Tattnall, Long and McIntosh. It also includes these South Carolina counties: Hampton, Jasper and Beaufort.
High temperatures in the lower to mid-90s combined with moderate humidity will lead to heat index values of 105 to 110 degrees for a few hours on Wednesday afternoon, according to the NWS. A break from the heat is expected as scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms develop.
A heat advisory means that a period of very high temperatures can be expected. The combination of heat and moisture will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible, according to the NWS. The NWS recommends that people drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, stay in an air conditioned environment and check on elderly residents.
