Manhunt ends at Cat Island; suspect remains at large

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A manhunt that began Thursday morning on Cat Island is over, and three burglary suspects are in custody. One more remains at large.

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies cordoned off the island to search for two suspects accused of an early-morning burglary at the British Open Pub at 8 Waveland Ave.

James Ralph Elam III, 19, of Tennessee, and Jose Benjamin Ruelas, 18, of Lady's Island, were arrested early Thursday morning in connection with that burglary, after they trying to flee on the Island Causeway, according to the sheriff's office.

Chad Dennis Burnett, 29, was found just before 11 a.m. on Cat Island during the search and was apprehended by the Sheriff's Office K9 Tracking Team, according to the sheriff's office. The other suspect, Cole James Jackson, 16, remains at large.

All four suspects will face second-degree burglary charges. More charges could be pending.

Deputies arrived at British Open Pub just as the suspects entered the restaurant and nothing was stolen during the burglary, according to the sheriff's office.
