Governor Speaks on DaimlerChrysler

The proposed DaimlerChrysler van plant is not a done deal, but plenty of people are counting on it. Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue was in town last night talking about plans for the plant in Pooler. The governor spoke at the Associated General Contractors of America Georgia chapter meeting in Savannah. If that plant comes, it'll be big news for contractors, and everyone else. The governor's very hopeful, but not ready to call it a sure thing.

"We are obviously excited about it," he said. "We've done everything that Georgia could do in this budget. I'll be making a trip to Europe in June to meet with DaimlerChrysler folks and executives there along with other business prospects. A trade trip to see if we can't bring others to this part of Georgia. So we look forward to that. We look forward to finally getting the deal signed and delivered and start creating jobs here in southeast Georgia."

They're already preparing the plant site in Pooler. And they've said before if DaimlerChrysler doesn't build there, someone else will. We'll keep you posted on what happens with the governor's trade trip.
