Appeal to be heard for fired Brunswick police chief

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A public hearing for fired Brunswick Police Chief Edna Johnson is scheduled for Monday, July 19.

Johnson, who is fighting to get her job back, appealed the city's decision to fire her last month.

Brunswick's mayor and city manager said Johnson was dismissed because of the way she handled a sex scandal involving one of her officers. They said she misled them about the investigation into the officer's dealings with a prostitue.

A majority decision by the city commission is required to overturn the firing.

The hearing is scheduled for 11 am at City Hall.
