BP, feds mum on what's next with Gulf oil well cap

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Another deadline from the federal government on the trial of BP's Gulf well cap has passed and it's still not clear what's next.

It's been three days since BP stopped the flow of oil from the busted well. The trial run was supposed to end Saturday, but was extended until Sunday afternoon.

Video footage showed the well was still plugged.

BP wants to keep using the giant stopper to hold in the oil until they plug the blown out well permanently.

But the government's point man on the crisis, who will make the final call, has said the oil will be released through pipes to ships on the surface.

That plan would cause some oil to be released into the Gulf.
