LIBERTY CO. (WTOC) - The body of a Hinesville soldier is returning home on Thursday afternoon.
Staff Sgt. Sheldon L. Tate, 27, was killed on July 13 while repelling an insurgent attack on an Afghan police compound in Kandahar City.
A U.S. Army Honor Guard will receive and accompany the transportation of Tate to Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway.
Tate was assigned to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was deployed with the unit to Afghanistan from March 2007 to April 2008 and remained at Fort Bragg to be deployed again in August 2009.
Midway is encouraging community members to line U.S. 84 west of U.S. 17 at about 1:15 p.m.
