Savannah Tech students to help restore historic landmark

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Next week, nineteen Savannah Technical College Historic Preservation students work to help restore a National Historic Landmark.

The students will work on at Savannah's historic Green-Meldrim House, a National Historic Landmark and the Civil War Headquarters of General William T. Sherman.

Stephen Hartley, the college's instructor of Historic Preservation, will direct students who will do plaster work, paint analysis and brick repair.

The students are enrolled in one of two classes -- masonry and plaster or wall finishes and gilding. Historic preservation students will also be working at several other sites in the area this summer.

Savannah Technical College offers the only historic preservation program within the Technical College System of Georgia.
