WILMINGTON ISLAND, GA (WTOC) – It was a tale of two greens for the returning champions at the Oglethorpe Invitational.
For the fairy tale, it was 2005 champion Jack Hall, who shot a round-one best 66. Canada's Greg Doherty also shot 66 Friday, to grab a share of the lead.
For return champs Brendan Gillins and Doug Hanzel, round one was more of a nightmare.
Gillins struggled on the Wilmington Island course, coming in with a +4 finish, while Hanzel shot a round one 73.
"It's a lot more pressure," said Gillins of playing as a return champion. "I feel since this is my home course, I should go out and play well and contend and I don't think I handled it as well as I should have today."
First tee Saturday is set for 7:30am.
