Man robbed on south end of Hilton Head Island

BEAUFORT CO., SC  (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that happened early Saturday morning on the south end of Hilton Head.

Deputies arrived at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday to Pope Avenue and Office Park Road on a report of an armed robbery that happened an hour earlier.

A 22-year old man said he had been robbed at gunpoint by three unknown suspects while walking home from Hilton Head Plaza. He told authorities he was walking down the bike path on Pope Avenue and was approached by an unknown black male.

That person tried to start an argument with the victim and brandished a handgun, which he pointed at the victim's head, according to the sheriff's office. A white male and another black male then approached man from behind and placed him in a headlock.

One of the robbery suspects took a cell phone and wallet from the man's pockets and then pushed the victim to the ground. All three suspects ran foot toward the Sea Pines traffic circle.

The victim was unharmed. He was unable to provide any further description of his attackers.
