SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m. includes most of the WTOC viewing area except far south and far western Georgia counties.
The watch includes 12 Georgia counties: Bryan, Bulloch, Candler, Chatham, Effingham, Evans, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Screven and Tattnall.
The watch includes these eight South Carolina counties: Allendale, Beaufort, Berkeley,
Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper.
Thunderstorms that develop have the potential to become severe, generating damaging winds, large hail, very heavy rain and excessive lightning strikes.
Storms are expected to drift slowly toward the southwest and could develop as random locations. Storm activity has diminished greatly between 3:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. The max air temperature in Savannah was 102, which breaks the record for this date last set in 1940.
The heat index was 113.
