Heritage Foundation announces donations

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -  Heritage Classic Foundation board chairman Simon Fraiser announced on Tuesday that more than $1 million in charities will be donated from proceeds of last year's Verizon Heritage golf tournament.

"We are proud of this year's charity distributions, especially with the difficult economic times that we have been experiencing."" said Fraser in a news release.

With this year's donation of $1,111,009, the foundation is now over the $20 million mark since it was formed in 1987 as a not-for-profit organization.

A total of $409,159 was shared amoung 49 different area groups. Nine local civic groups who ran concessions shared a total of $208,120. An additional $216,980 was given throughout the year to charities to help with programs and fundraising.

Also, the Heritage Classic Foundation Scholar Program received $276,750 to help 57 outstanding Beaufort County students this fall with continuing their education.

    Protestors in downtown Savannah have surrounded Georgia State Senator Michael Williams' deportation bus and are preventing the bus from moving.  At least one person has been arrested so far.     A young Statesboro child is undergoing plastic surgery to her face after a dog attacked her on Saturday afternoon.  The girl is receiving treatment to close her gaping wounds as doctors work to keep scarring at a minimum.  You can see the original Facebook post here.
