20,000 gallons of raw sewage leaked

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The City of Savannah Sanitary Sewer Maintenance workers cleaned up a major sewage leak off of Ewell Street early Tuesday morning.

Around 20,000 gallons of raw sewage was gushing out of an overflowing manhole because of a grease blockage in the sanitary sewer collection system. The sewage flowed into a drainage ditch, which flows into the Little Ogeechee River.

The blockage was cleared, but the damage was done. The City of Savannah believes it started sometime over the weekend.
