Two area sea-service leadership events to Salute this week. First, a change of command at our Naval Hospital in Beaufort. Navy Captain Mark Bernier has relinquished his Hospital command to Navy Captain Joan Queen. With his departure from Beaufort, Captain Bernier has also retired from the Navy, after 32-years of distinguished service to our nation. Captain, we thank you for your over-three-decades of military career dedication, and wish you good health and great happiness in your retirement.
And a homecoming for Savannah-native, Navy Captain James Ware, who recently relinquished his command of the United States Naval Hospital Ship, "Comfort," which most recently played a key humanitarian role in providing critical medical treatment and care for badly injured residents of Haiti's earthquake-ravaged capital-city of Port-au-Prince. Captain Ware, a dentist by profession, will spend the next several months on-staff at Naval Hospital Beaufort, before he, too, retires from over three-decades of distinguished military service, joining us, then, as a full-time Savannah resident once more.
Our congratulations and welcome to Naval Hospital Beaufort's new Commanding Officer, Captain Joan Queen. And a heartfelt welcome-home to Captain James Ware, whose wife is also a native of Savannah. We're delighted to have you and your family back with us, in this most-blessed and special part of the world.
