Gallery to host portrait paintings art show

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah native and artist Arthur Milton will present an exhibition of portrait paintings at Gallery S.P.A.C.E. from Aug. 6  to Sept. 3.

An opening reception is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 6. The installation is a compilation of works over the past 20 years and includes large-scale celebrity, family and presidential images. The portraits include those of Lou Rawls, Dolly Parton and Oprah Winfrey.

Milton earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design and was a member of the first graduating class in 1982. He received a Master of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore. One of his local commissions includes a portrait painted for the Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Committee that now hangs in the Savannah Civic Center's Arena.
