SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - An overheated appliance may be to blame for the city's latest fire.
It happened around 6 p.m. Sunday, at a home off Gerald Drive, near Skidaway Road, on the east side of Savannah.
Savannah firefighters say the blaze started in the laundry room of one home.
The family of two adults and four children managed to call police and get out of the house safely.
Firefighters quickly went to work, putting the fire out. Savannah Fire says this was the second laundry room fire they've responded to on Sunday.
"Keeping the laundry room and the house clutter free makes a big difference. And that way the machines and the appliances can vent as they need to. It's helpful," said Capt. Tonia Snelling.
Savannah firefighters is still investigating, but believes some laundry caught fire and possibly caused the blaze.
