Blood drive held to honor deputy

BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WTOC) - The Beaufort community is rallying behind a Beaufort County Sheriff deputy injured in a motorcycle accident two weeks ago. He was off duty and riding for charity when it happened.

More than 100 people rolled up their sleaves to give blood in honor of Capt. John Keough. Keough has been with the department for more than 18 years and is a retired marine.

"It's incredible. We had a 107 people pre-register to donate blood and then we've had a lot of people walk up and the amount of support we've had and John has had has been incredible. I know his wife and kids appreciate it," said Jeff Purdy, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

His fellow deputies and friends organized the blood drive because of so many people asking what they could do to help.

All of the blood donated goes right back to the community.

Capt. Keough is still in the hospital recovering.
