BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) - A Glynn County judge ruled George Edenfield to be mentally incompetent to stand trial for the 2007 murder of Christopher Barrios. Judge Stephen Scarlett made the decision in a hearing Tuesday.

Edenfield and his parents were arrested and charged with molesting and killing Barrios in the family's mobile home. They lived across the street from the boy's mother and down the street from him and his father.

George Edenfield will remain in custody at a state mental health hospital. He will be evaluated again before the end of the year to determine if he's competent then to stand trial.

Edenfield's father, David, was tried, convicted and sentenced to death in the case. His mother, Peggy, still awaited trial. However, she testified against her husband and was expected to testify against George. If convicted, George Edenfield would face a possible death sentence.
