S.R. 196 traffic shift planned

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Georgia Dept. of Transportation has a traffic shift and new traffic light signal activation planned at State Route 196 and U.S. 17 in Liberty County.

As part of the widening and reconstruction of S.R. 196, contractors for the Georgia DOT will be shifting traffic onto the new constructed westbound lanes and permanent configuration of S.R. 196, according to the DOT. Drivers headed east on S.R. 196 will remain in the current alignment.

The new traffic signal at the intersection of S.R. 196 and U.S. 17 will be changed from flash mode to fully operational on Thursday morning.

Drivers should reduce speed as they travel through this construction work zone and should expect travel delays while the contractor is modifying striping and signage to accommodate the traffic shift, according to the DOT.
