35th Third ID Casualty Honored

It was an emotional day at Fort Stewart as soldiers and family members gathered to pay tribute to PFC Marlin Rockhold. Yesterday, the base presented a redbud tree and a plaque as a living memorial along Warriors' Walk. Just days after the President officially declared major hostilities over, a sniper killed PFC Rockhold.

Denise Jones, a family friend, got a letter from him just Tuesday. It was written only days before he died.

"He said, 'Thank God the war is over. Now it's going to be time to do some high-speed patrolling,'" said Jones. "All I can think about is when he says high-speed patrolling.is how he lost his life, patrolling."

PFC Rockhold was the 35th Third Infantry Division soldier killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
