NFBPA holds 3rd annual Beverly Whitehead scholarship banquet

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Hundreds of volunteers spent Thursday evening at the Savannah Civic Center ballroom.

Members of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators held their 3rd annual Beverly Whitehead scholarship banquet.

The group honored several community leaders but most importantly, they awarded $5000 in scholarships to college students who plan to work in public service.

"It's important because times are hard for everyone and certainly those that are going to school are finding out that the pots that generally give money are getting less," explained alderman Van Johnson, II, president of NFBPA. "We are able to help people realize their dreams as we are able to realize ours through education."

WTOC's own Dawn Baker was honored to serve as the MC for the very special evening.
