Robbery suspect caught, 2 others sought

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Police have arrested one man and are on the lookout for two others, after a wild chase.

The search began just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday when a man reported hearing burglars, outside his house on Reita Avenue.

Officers arrived, and chased three men in a Mazda 6 to Thunderbolt, where the car hit a fence at Johnson High School.

Damien Gaines, 20, was quickly arrested.

One of the two weapons recovered was also reported stolen, according to police.

Earlier Saturday, a gray Mazda 6 was reported leaving the scene of two other burglaries. The first occurred at 1:09 p.m. Saturday in the 5700 block of Beverly Street. The second burglary took place at 2:06 in the 300 Blk. of Penrose Drive. Gaines had stolen property on him and more stolen items were found in the stolen Mazda 6 that linked him to all three burglaries, according to police.

Gaines is charged with three counts of burglary, theft by receiving stolen property, and numerous traffic charges.

Gaines also had four active arrest warrants out for him -- felony obstruction, battery on a police officer, theft by receiving stolen property (gun) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He's currently in Chatham County Jail. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday.
