SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It was a sea of pink and black on the Savannah State University campus Saturday.
The National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer held their 4th Annual Pink and Black Gala. The event brings more awareness to breast cancer and spotlights those who have beaten the disease.
"Breast cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence. No cancer does. The more research, the more we do to acknowledge the doctors and nurse and the patients the more we find a cure for cancer," said Martina Correia, the organizer for the event.
The group volunteers time in community, teaching workshops on cancer education. All money raised will go back into the community, funding more programs on cancer awareness.
