SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - An Emanuel County school partially destroyed by fire will reopen its doors Monday.
Just over a week ago flames engulfed the 100-year-old main building on the David Emanuel Academy campus. Firefighters said a lightning strike started the blaze.
The fire was contained to the main building and didn't spread to the rest of the school.
School was supposed to open last Monday, but because of the fire it was moved it back a week. Demolition crews have taken down what remained of David Emanuel Academy's oldest building.
Students are reporting to DEA on Monday morning. School leaders said plenty of people volunteered last week to get the rest of the building ready to reopen.
