TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - Swimmers may want to use caution in the ocean off Tybee Island.
According to lifeguards, as of Aug. 22, 10,812 jellyfish stings have been recorded -- that's the most on record for a single summer. That's up from 7,585 in 2009. In 2008, there only 1,933 jellyfish stings. In 2007, there were 5,349 jellyfish stings.
The season isn't over yet. With tourism up this year, more visitors could simply mean more stings.
