SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A heated controversy was under debate at Savannah State University at their Islamic Expo held on Tuesday. Organizers say Islam has gotten a bad reputation since September 11, 2001 and that it is unfair not to allow the New York mosque to be built.
The exhibit was held to highlight the connection between Afircan-Americans and Islam as well as a variety of artifacts.
"It should be built because you should take a position against the people who perpetrate crimes not the religion that they follow," said Willis Jones.
Jones says Islam has made great contributions throughout history in America and it's unfair to just focus on September 11.
