TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - Hurricane Danielle is beginning to break up and over the weekend, the storm was responsible for helping create dangerous rip currents on Tybee Island.
Lifeguards raised their red caution flags on Sunday, warning people to be extra careful in the water.
"It's real choppy real windy. Anywhere from 15 to 20 miles per hour winds. It's bringing a lot of kite surfers out. A lot of regular surfers out," said Tybee Ocean Rescue Cpt. Mike Taylor. "Why people are coming out and swimming in this is beyond me though. This isn't the conditions where you want to bring your kids to the beach and go frolic in the waves."
Lifeguards are not allowed to close the beach. They say that decision would have to be made by the City of Tybee Island.
WTOC's Christy Hutchings is on Tybee Island and will have the latest coming up on THE News Now at 4:00 p.m.
