HUNTING ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - Hunting Island State Park is seeking some effects from Hurricane Danielle. While the waves have calmed down a bit, Hunting Island officials say they had high waves combined with reports of rip currents. They say it caused some erosion and caused a power pole near the beach to come down.
With Earl on the way, they are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.
"We'll be monitoring the weather reports, see how the surf continues on the cycle, how it's coming up. We will montitor and basically doing daily patrols checking on our visitors and the park itself," said Park Manager Jeff Atkins.
Hunting Island officials are still hoping for big crowds this holiday weekend, but do stress that swimmers use caution in the water.
