Students are getting back into the groove with a new principal and many new teachers and staff.
So far so good as WTOC caught up with Superintendent Dr. Thomas Lockamy as he made his way around the school walking the halls with new Beach high Principal Derrick Muhammad.
Lockamy says even though the school is on the state's needs improvement list right now, he feels the changes the district made are the right ones.
"The energy that Mr. Muhammad has brought to the school with the new faculty. I was just talking to students and they said what a difference because of the positive climate. Teachers are saying, 'welcome; we are glad you are here; let us help you,'"said Lockamy.
It's all about learning in the classrooms. Principal Muhammad spent some time Monday morning just observing.
"We are going around making sure teachers are teaching and looking into classrooms to see what's going on," said Muhammad.
"Some of the strategies we have set up for these students. We are gonna get them ready and they are going to pass their exams and move on to the next grade," said Muhammad.
