STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - America's largest medical helicopter company is coming to Statesboro. Air Evac announced they are building a base in Statesboro. The company has nearly 100 similar posts around the country, in rural areas. Their medical crews fly patients to trauma hospitals in large cities. Staff members say it helps save the lives of critical patients.

"By placing helicopters in those rural communities, it takes away half of the response time coming from the larger cities out there and back," said Mel Kelly, Air Evac Lifeteam.

Statesboro is the fifth air evac location in Georgia. The company is announcing its sixth site in Brunswick on Wednesday.
