SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah Fire investigators are looking for arson suspects they say  set fires in the Strathmore Estates neighborhood.

The two suspects set fire to two structures on Wednesday, September 1. Witnesses told fire investigators that in both incidents they noticed several people feeing the area.

The first fire happened around 10 a.m. on Crescent Drive. Savannah firefighters were able contained the fire and smoke to a vacant apartment. Several people were seen leaving the scene right before firefighters arrived.

Around 10 p.m. firefighters were sent to Eglin Street on reports of another fire. When firefighters arrived, they found a vacant duplex burning. Savannah Fire Public Information Officer Mark Keller described this fire as "raging". One of the units was severely damaged; the second unit was moderately damaged. Firefighters saw individuals leaving the scene as they were arriving.

Strathmore Estates is undergoing demolition as an effort by the City of Savannah to revitalize the area with a mix of new residential housing. Most of the buildings have been razed, but there are still about 80 residents living in the area.

SFES is concerned for the safety of the residents and the safety of the firefighters who respond to arson crimes.
